As this month's newsletter "goes to press" I am enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday in Montana with family. Definitely colder than my home in North Carolina - also quieter and closer to Mother Nature. It has been a good visit.
My topics this month include holiday venues at which my work can be viewed, updates to my website, upcoming classes scheduled, new creations, and a gift certificate discount.
I have already delivered items to two venues that I participated in previously: The More the Merrier, hosted by Associated Artists of Winston-Salem, and Deck the Halls, hosted by the Sawtooth School for Visual Art, also in Winston-Salem. I am pleased to have a number of styles of books and price ranges available. I also have submitted two pieces of marbling as wall art to the More the Merrier - and am very pleased with them. On Sunday Dec. 4, I will be in Brasstown, NC at the Fireside Sale at the John Campbell Folk School. This is my first opportunity to participate in the Fireside sale. I am certainly hopeful that the NC wildfires that have been burning in the area continue to be contained.
For those of you in Winston-Salem - - I will be teaching a short afternoon workshop on folded book structures, especially geared for the holidays. We will meet from 1 to 3:30 pm on Saturday, Dec. 10 in the conference room at Twin City Hive Coffee Lounge (feel free to bring your beverage into the workshop). The small price of $35 will buy you fun and at least 2 small books that you can keep or give away. (It will not be difficult to create 3 or 4.) Feel free to pay at the door for this relaxed workshop.
On the related note of holiday activities, this month is the last opportunity for awhile to obtain an Anne's Books and Papers gift certificate at a discount. The certificate can be for any amount you choose and can be used toward any product or service I provide except for workshops where I am contracted to an organization. You decide the amount and let me know. I provide a decorative and personal certificate for you to keep for yourself or give away. Gift certificates are always good for one year. The not-so-fine print: purchase prior to Dec. 31. 2016 and receive a 15% discount from the face value. Spend $85 and receive $100!
One of the interesting commissions I currently have is to create 25 volumes of a collection of poetry. The poets took a workshop together and wanted to publish their collective works for themselves. The covers have been created and are stacked awaiting the printing of the text block. I will be doing a simple case binding with book cloth spine. All the covers use my marbled or handmade papers, mostly in shades of blue and green.
I observe a number of holidays this season. Whatever your beliefs and traditions, I wish you a healthy and peaceful holiday season. If you choose to make purchases, I do hope you will consider supporting local artists.
